Charon Rose is a trailblazing public affairs and policy practitioner with over a decade of experience in leading government programs, driving legislative initiatives, and fostering collaboration across sectors. As a first-generation college graduate, Charon's journey embodies resilience, determination, and a commitment to breaking barriers through advocacy.
In her current role as the Director of Workforce Strategy and Operations at the Rhode Island Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner, Charon supports legislative initiatives and policy efforts while spearheading workforce strategy and outreach. She has a proven track record of executing large-scale projects, securing significant funding for workforce development programs, and establishing partnerships to promote economic opportunities for Rhode Islanders.
Previously, Charon served as the first Black Deputy Treasurer for the State of Rhode Island. As Deputy Treasurer for Financial Empowerment and Community Outreach in the Office of Rhode Island General Treasurer Seth Magaziner, she was instrumental in advancing financial literacy initiatives and successfully advocated for personal finance education legislation, breaking new ground in empowering Rhode Island residents with essential financial knowledge. Charon's leadership was pivotal in managing stakeholders, pushing legislation through the complex political landscape, and ensuring successful implementation of impactful policies.
Charon's political acumen and leadership were evident in her pivotal role as the Deputy Field Director for Jorge Elorza's successful mayoral campaign in Providence, marking a significant moment as the second Latino mayor of Providence. Her strategic guidance and organizational prowess were instrumental in securing Mayor Elorza's victory and advancing representation in local government.
Her dedication to service extends beyond her professional endeavors. She made history as the first Black president of the Young Democrats of Rhode Island, breaking barriers and paving the way for future leaders. She currently serves on the boards of Social Enterprise Greenhouse and Boys Town New England, where she drives positive change and supports local initiatives. As a trusted leader in the political arena, Charon has actively shaped policy and fostered civic engagement through her involvement in organizations such as the Rhode Island Democratic Party and the Young Democrats of Rhode Island. Additionally, she brings years of valuable experience as a union member with SEIU 1199, where she advocated for workers' rights and contributed to building stronger communities.
Charon holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Clark University and she also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations from Rhode Island College. As an alumna of the New Leaders Council Rhode Island, Charon honed her leadership skills and expanded her network of like-minded professionals, solidifying her reputation as a dynamic and visionary leader.
